I N S T A L L A T I O N

The game is installed using the PV Application Manager (which comes on the CD with your PocketViewer). You can find general instructions how to install applications in the PocketViewer manual. After installing the game you can start or stop the sound effects from the system option which turns on/off the sound when touching the screen ( Menu Bar > System > Sound > Key Tone ).

The game information is displayed in the upper part of the screen. Here's what it contains:
H : Health - This is your health level. The maxiumum value is 100%.
K : Keys - Number of keys you have collected so far. To open the gate to the next level you need five keys.
E : Experience - This is your experience level. It influences your power and endurance. Your experience increases with each battle you win. Here's an example : if in the beginning of the adventure you could kill a CREEP with four magics, at the end you'll be able to kill it with two or even a single magic.

The camera is controlled using the Garga Ball controller, which is displayed right under the game screen. Moving the pen over the circle will move the player forward or backward, or turn him left or right. The above picture shows how the pen position defines the player movement.
UnderQuest uses two controllers placed next to each other. With the left one the player moves and uses his staff (fires) simultaneously, and with the right one he only moves. When the player only moves (using the right controller), the maximum speed is higher than when both moving and firing (using the left controller). This is one reason to stop firing occasionally - it's easier to run away without firing. Another reason is that if you keep firing, you might kill a medic :)

C R E A T U R E S

MEDIC : The young sourceresses banished by Kroum after his daughters death are still roaming the catacombs. They are the only friendly creatures. They will help you when you are injured. Though sometimes they go too far in their care, don't hurt them!

DUND : They are slow, stupid, and comparatively weak. They can be of any danger only when they catch you from behind.

MASTER FROG : The giant frogs are a little faster than DUND, but are very weak and do lower damage.

CREEP : Fast and more powerful, several of them can make a very unpleasant company.

DEATH : Very powerful enemy. When he manages to hit you with his scythe, he makes serious damage.

KEY LORD : These demons are the keepers of the keys to the gates connecting the catacomb galleries. The only way to take the key from the keeper is to kill him. As you can guess, the keys were given to these demons not without a reason.

DEMON KNIGHT : One of the fastest creatures of the catacombs, this enchanted knight will reach you in no time. He takes quite some magic to be killed, and the damage he makes is not less.

BEAST : What can be worse than an enchanted knight - a beast as fast as him, and with a twice more powerful blow. The concentration of these creatures gets painfully high near the end of the labyrinth.

VARADIN : You will meet the devoured by black magic king's counsellor at the castle entrance. He is the last obstacle to the palace, and the first real challenge to your magical abilities.

O B J E C T I V E S

GATE : This is the only entrance to each next gallery in the catacombs. To get through it you will need all five keys to its magic keylocks.
MAGIC PLACE : In the catacombs there are many "magic" places, which open secret doors or release creatures when stepped upon. In most cases you'll need to find these places to continue forward.
